General Growth Properties Hawaii Malls Open Their Doors and Hearts for Local Charity Drive
WHAT: General Growth Properties Hawaii will join forces with local non-profit, the Lokahi Giving Project, to host Lokahi’s annual state-wide Lokahi Drive. Four malls across three islands will participate in this year’s event including Ala Moana Center and Windward Mall on the island of Oahu, Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center on Maui and Prince Kuhio Plaza on the Big Island.
The Lokahi Drive will bring together more than 600 Lokahi volunteers state-wide including members from KHON2’s news staff who will help to accept donations of cash and unwrapped gifts. Gift cards – which can be purchased at Ala Moana Center’s Customer Service Center – are in high demand again this year and are often used by families to purchase educational toys, school supplies, cleaning products, and linens which they can use year-round. All gifts collected will be distributed to less-fortunate recipients around the state to offer assistance during the holiday season.
Day-long entertainment will also be featured at all four Lokahi Drive sites, including performances by Raiatea Helm and The Baraquios at Ala Moana Center, Jasmine Trias and Jake and Bruce Shimabukuro at Windward Mall, Melveen Leed at Prince Kuhio Plaza and Derek Sebastian at Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center.
Also, on December 15 and 16, Ward Centers, another General Growth Properties mall, will host its first “Santa’s Holiday Workshop” event, which will feature a variety of children’s activities with all proceeds to benefit the Lokahi Giving Project. “Santa’s Holiday Workshop” will run from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on both dates. Tickets are $10 per child.
